Barbie with Kinky Hair?

There is an artist that creates custom made dolls of every skin hue,  hair texture and hair color.  When I posted these dolls on our FaceBook page, many sisters thought these were our dolls, Khamit Kinks dolls.  Unfortunately, they’re not.  But they are amazing and I too would love to get one!  Here’s the link to the artist. Custom Doll Hair

Of course these dolls aren’t really Barbie dolls.  They’re much too real like to be a Barbie.

Check out this gorgeous one with her short Locs and her serene expression!

And check out this alluring doll.  Wonder what it would have been like to see dolls like this when I was a child???

This Rasta looking doll is baring her natural beauty for all to see and admire.

This one seems to be most popular.

And last but not least, we have a doll with natural Locs who looks ready for any holiday party.  What’s your thoughts on these dolls?

This is a long time coming. The hair texture of many people of African descent is one that can not be denied or ignored. It’s God-given and should be admired, adorned and accepted. Hat’s off to you!

The hair texture is a step in the right direction. But why is it that so many of these dolls have green/blue eyes? I’m not denying that some black people have blue/green eyes, but these are the minority. I’m just disturbed to see a supposed celebration of black beauty must seemingly always make reference to whiteness, either through straightened hair or blue eyes… I don’t really see these dolls as disrupting that trend.

    • The reason the dolls have blue and green eyes is because they are initially white dolls made into ‘black looking’ dolls. They were painted black and then they had kinky hair added to their heads. I’m not saying they are the best, but they did resonant with many. I’m just so happy you’re not another person asking me where to get them from since they are no longer available.

I do love these dolls and would love love to have at least 3, particularly with light or dark brown eyes which is reflective of my family and my sweet heart; he had locs.
Remember when people went crazy seeking those odd, mush-face looking dolls, cabage-patch? Well, people would “die” for Carolyn’s kinky hair dolls. Love when we see ourselves portrayed as we are – BEAUTIFUL.
